Green Bean package
Fall 2019
Design a produce package that streamlines the picking to packaging to selling process using paper based materials.
Ideation
Small boxes are placed into a larger bin. Beans will fall into the small boxes while picking; when done remove the boxes and close the lid of each box.
A large box is filled with beans. Once full the bottom is slowly pulled back over individual trays.
Fill the tray of boxes while picking green beans using a slider on top to make aiming simpler.
Bags are put into a divider stand; once filled, bags can be removed.
I began with four unique ideas, focusing on how I can make the picking-to-selling process of green beans faster.
Prototypes
This pattern helped to understand how the bottom could fold and stay closed without glue.
This pattern helped to understand how a lid could fold down and how perforated edges could be used.
This pattern ended up working the best. it would stand open and close easily once the flaps were torn along the perforations. This design did not need any adhesive.
Final Design
The final design makes it easy to fill many bean boxes at once while picking. Once finished the individual boxes can be removed and closed, ready to take to the local farmers market. The design does not require any adhesive and can stack without worrying about crushing the delicate produce inside.
